Disconnects residence from electrical mains
Often a miniature circuit breaker is used as the isolator.

Residual Current Device (RCD) and Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB)
Senses current imbalance between Live and Neutral
If Live current ≠ Neutral current, some current must be travelling through Earth
Trip if imbalance > RCD sensitivity

I∆n = 100mA, for whole-house fire protection
I∆n = 30mA, for electric shock protection
I∆n = 10mA, for electric shock protection in wet areas (shower, bathroom)
Test monthly
Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB)
Senses current current flow through Protective Earth conductor
Will not trip if Earth wire is disconnected between the appliance and the DB
Superseded now by RCDs / RCCBs
